Retail trade turnover fell by 2.4% in Latvia in November

Retail trade turnover fell by 2.4% in Latvia in November 2023 on a year-on-year basis, new data from the country’s Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) has found.

Turnover in the food retail sector declined by 1.6%, the data showed, while retail trade in non-food products (excluding fuel) was down 2.8%.

Compared to November 2022, the largest turnover growth in the retail sector was seen in clothing, footwear and leather goods (+7.8%), sales at stalls or markets (+7.3 %) and information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+6.3 %).

Month-on-month comparison

Compared to the previous month, meanwhile, the total turnover of the Latvian retail trade was up 1.0%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices.

The retail turnover of food products was down 1.2%, while non-food products (excluding fuel) rose by 1.3%.

Compared to the previous month, the most notable turnover increase was seen in the segment of electrical household appliances sold through in specialised stores (+8.5 %).

Clothing, footwear and leather goods saw the biggest month-on-month decline, however, of 10.4%.
