Belgium reported more than 46 million tourist overnight stays last year

More than 46 million overnight stays in tourist accommodation were recorded in Belgium last year, according to new data from Statbel, the Belgian statistics office.

In total, there were 6,113,837 overnight stays in Belgian tourist accommodation recorded last year, a 3% increase on the previous year, with all accommodation categories seeing an increase.

Camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks saw the strongest growth, rising by 11% year-on-year. Hotels also recorded a solid increase, of 2%.

On a regional basis, Flanders remained the dominant tourism hub, accounting for 63% of all overnight stays. Wallonia followed with 21%, while the Brussels-Capital Region represented 16% of the total.

Wallonia experienced the largest regional growth, with overnight stays increasing by 6%, compared with a 2% rise in Flanders. In contrast, Brussels saw overall figures remain stable compared to the previous year.

December 2025 data

Looking at the data from December 2025 specifically, positive momentum was recorded, with 3.12 million overnight stays – an increase of 6.1% compared with the same month in 2024. Hotels accounted for the majority of these stays (57.9%), followed by holiday homes and apartments (16.2%) and holiday centres and villages (12%).

At a regional level, Wallonia recorded the strongest month-on-month growth in December, with overnight stays rising by 10.5% year-on-year to 589,001. Flanders also saw an increase of 7.4%, reaching 1.86 million overnight stays.

However, the Brussels-Capital Region experienced a slight decline of 1%, with 666,884 overnight stays recorded, according to Statbel. Read more here.
