Belgium reported a 12.9% decline in agricultural output prices in the fourth quarter of 2025, the sharpest decline in the European Union, according to Eurostat.
Other countries to report a notable decline in agricultural output prices were Lithuania (-8.2%) and Germany (-6.0%), with a total of 15 EU member states seeing prices decline compared to the corresponding period a year earlier.
At the same time, agricultural output prices increased in 12 EU member states, with the biggest gains seen in Ireland (+6.8%), Slovenia (+5.6%) and Malta (+4.2%).
Agricultural output prices in the EU
Overall, the average price of agricultural output at the farm gate fell by 1.9% in the EU in Q4 2025, compared to the same quarter a year earlier. This followed on from price increases in the first three quarters of las year.
‘By contrast, the average price of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture (inputs not related to investment, such as energy, fertilisers or feedingstuffs) was unchanged compared with the fourth quarter of 2024,’ Eurostat noted. ‘The average price of goods and services remained relatively stable throughout 2025.’
In terms of the average price of inputs not related to investment, 11 countries saw a decline in Q4, with Cyprus (-2.6%), Belgium (-2.1%) and Sweden (-2.0%) seeing the sharpest declines, and Lithuania (+4.2%), Ireland (+3.3%) and Romania (+2.5%) the biggest increases.
Milk and cereal prices fell significantly across the EU in Q4 2025, decreasing by 4.1% and 8.9% respectively compared with the same period a year earlier. On the input side, the cost of fertilisers and soil improvers increased by 7.9%, while the cost of feedingstuffs and energy declined by 2.7% and by 1.7% respectively. Read more here.
