EU citizens moderately satisfied with their financial situation, data shows

According to the most recently-available data, EU citizens rate their satisfaction with their financial situation at 6.6 on a scale from 0 to 10, new data from Eurostat has shown.

The highest level of financial satisfaction, the 2022 data showed, was found in the Netherlands and Finland, where rating of 7.6 was recorded. Sweden followed next with 7.4, while Austria reported 7.3.

At the other end of the scale meanwhile, some six EU countries reported a satisfaction level below six – Bulgaria recorded the lowest score at 4.6. Greece followed with 5.3, Croatia with 5.7, and Slovakia with 5.8. Hungary and Latvia both reported scores of 5.9.

Leading economies

In terms of the EU’s biggest economies, France reported a financial situation score of 6.4, with Italy on 6.7 and Spain on 6.3. No data was available for Germany.

The findings form part of Eurostat‘s broader statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC). While overall life satisfaction is measured annually, domain-specific measures such as financial satisfaction, personal relationships, and leisure are collected every six years.
