Greece reported a 11.9% annual increase in services production in April 2025, the biggest increase in the European Union, new data from Eurostat has found.

According to the data, other significant increases in services production were recorded in Denmark (+8.1%), Lithuania (+7.9%) and Luxembourg (7.0%)

At the other end of the scale, the biggest decrease in services production, on an annual basis, was recorded in Malta (-2.9%), followed by Slovenia (-2.0%), Bulgaria (-0.8%) and Austria (-0.8%).

Services production in the EU

At an EU level, seasonally adjusted services production increased by 1.1% in April 2025, compared to the same month the previous year, while in the euro area, it rose by 0.7%.

Services production increased across all market segments in the EU, on an annual basis, in transportation and storage by 1.5%; in accommodation and food services by 2.6%; in information and communication by 2.0%; in real estate activities by 0.9%; in professional, scientific and technical activities by 0.6%; and in administrative and support services by 0.1%.

Month-on-month comparison

On a month-on-month basis, meanwhile, services production decreased by 0.3% in both the EU and the euro area. The biggest month-on-month increases were recorded in Greece (+4.6%), Luxembourg (+3.9%) and Slovakia (+2.2%), while the biggest decreases were reported in Denmark (-2.1%), Slovenia (-1.3%) and Hungary (-1.2%).

Services production in the EU was up in transportation and storage (by 0.4%) and accommodation and food services (by 1.0%) on a month-on-month basis, but declined in information and communication; real estate activities; professional, scientific and technical activities; and administrative and support services, Eurostat noted.
