Guest nights up 17.8% in the EU in Q2 2025

Guest nights in short-term rental accommodation, as booked through Airbnb, Booking.com or Expedia, were up 17.8% in the EU in the second quarter, an indication of 2025 being a 'promising year' for tourism.

According to the Eurostat data, the total number of guest nights booked via these platforms totalled 245.9 million in the second quarter, which was up by more than a third (36.8%) on the second quarter in 2023.

April saw the biggest increase during the period, with nights spent in short-stay accommodation increasing by 34.3% year-on-year, primarily due to the timing of the Easter holidays.

May 2025 saw a 5.3% increase in guest nights, year-on-year, while June was up 18.1% compared to the same month a year earlier.

In total, some 71.8 million guest nights were booked in the EU in April 2025, compared to 53.5 million in 2024 and 54.5 million in 2023. In May, the total was 76.9 million (compared to 73 million in 2024 and 55.5 million in 2023), while in June, the total number of nights was 97.2 million (up from 82.3 million in 2024 and 69.9 million in 2023), Eurostat‘s data noted.

Top regions

In terms of the top regions across Europe in which short-term accommodation was booked, five were located in Spain, five in France, three in Italy, two in Austria, two in Portugal and one each in Hungary, Poland and Greece.

The Canary Islands topped the list, with 8.8 million nights booked, followed by the Rhône-Alpes (8.1 million) region in France, and Andalucía (7.7 million) in Spain. Read more here.
