The total value of imports into Cyprus in August 2024 stood at €948.6 million, compared to €1.24 billion in the same month the previous year, provisional data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat) has found.
This is a 23.7% decrease, year-on-year.
Imports from EU Member States totaled €564.8 million, while imports from non-EU countries reached €383.8 million, down from €692.4 million and €550.7 million, respectively, in August 2023.
Exports from Cyprus decline
Exports from Cyprus also fell in the period, with total exports for August totalling €276.4 million, compared to €422.8 million for the same month a year ago, a 34.6% decline.
Exports to EU Member States stood at €70.0 million, while exports to non-EU countries were €206.4 million, down from €79.1 million and €343.7 million, respectively, in August 2023.
The year to date
Looking at the year to date, for the period from January to August 2024, total imports reached €7.58 billion million, a 15.5% decrease on the same period the previous year, when imports totalled €8.97 billion.
Exports over the same period fell by 9.0% to €2.59 billion, down from €2.85 billion in the period from January to August 2023.
The trade deficit for the first eight months of 2024 stood at €4.99 billion, compared to €6.12 billion in the corresponding period of 2023. Learn more here.
