Industry turnover in Spain fell by 4.4% in December 2023, compared to the same month the previous year, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, new data from the INE statistics office has found.
Turnover in the consumer goods industry was up 2.9%, compared to the same month the previous year, the data showed, while in equipment goods, turnover rose by 0.5%.
In the field of intermediate goods, meanwhile, turnover fell by 9.0%, while in energy, turnover was down 21.8%.
On a month-on-month basis, overall industry turnover was down 0.9%, which was 2.4 percentage points lower than the previous month (+1.4%), according to the General Industry Turnover Index.
On a regional basis, the turnover index showed mixed results compared to December 2022, with increases observed in three autonomous communities and decreases in the remaining 14.
The most significant decreases were reported in the Principality of Asturias (-20.8%), Cantabria (-18.4%), and Comunidad Foral de Navarra (-16.9%).
Conversely, increases were noted in Extremadura (2.2%), the Balearic Islands (1.8%), and the Canary Islands (0.1%).
The geographic scope of the study encompasses the entire national territory, excluding Ceuta and Melilla. Results and information are collected on a monthly basis. The sample size consists of approximately 12,000 establishments.
