Some 3.08 billion nights were spent at tourist accommodation establishments across the European Union in 2025, an increase of 2%, or 61.5 million nights, since 2024.
International travellers were the core driver of increased tourism nights last year, with an additional 46.1 million nights recorded, while nights spent by domestic guests increased by 15.4 million, the Eurostat data showed.
International travellers accounted for just under half (49%) of all tourism nights spent in the EU last year, with domestic guests accounting for 51%.
Hotels lead the way
Hotels and similar accommodation accounted for the majority of tourism activity last year, recording 1.9 billion nights, or 63% of the total.
Holiday dwellings and other short-stay accommodation accounted for 24% of nights, totalling 743 million, while campsites accounted for 413 million nights, representing 13% of the total.
Malta reports double-digit growth
On a country-by-country basis, Malta recorded the highest year-on-year growth in nights spent in tourist accommodation, reporting a 10% rise in 2025, followed by Poland (+7%) and Latvia (+6%).
Slight decreases in tourism nights, meanwhile, were recorded in Romania (-1%) and Ireland (-2%), Eurostat noted. Read more here.
