The number of job vacancies in Austria fell by 3.9% in the third quarter of 2024, compared to Q2, new data from Statistics Austria has shown.
According to the data, there were some 167,800 jobs advertised in the third quarter, which is 17.1% fewer than the corresponding period last year.
‘Negative trend’
“The negative trend on the Austrian job market continues,” commented Statistics Austria director general Tobias Thomas. “Nevertheless, the number of vacancies is still 18.1% higher than before the pandemic: 142,100 vacancies were unfilled in the third quarter of 2019.”
The job vacancy rate, which reflects the proportion of vacancies relative to all available jobs, stood at 3.8% in Q3 2024, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter.
The majority of employment vacancies available in Austria in the third quarter of 2024 were in the trade and service sector (99,700), followed by the manufacturing sector (37,800) and the public and social sector (30,300), according to the data.
Declining job vacancies
The job vacancy rate in Austria has gradually declined since the start of this year – in Q1 2024, there were 196,400 job vacancies, resulting in a job vacancy rate of 4.5%.
In Q2 2024, job vacancies decreased to 174,700, as the vacancy rate dropped to 4.0%. In Q3, this had fallen to 3.8%. Read more here.
