Services production in the European Union grew by 3.3% in January 2025, compared to the corresponding period a year earlier, new data from Eurostat has found.
In the euro area, seasonally adjusted services production was up 2.9% on a year-on-year basis.
The highest annual increases were reported in Denmark (+16.0%), Estonia (+10.5%) and Greece (+10.1%), the data showed, with just one country reporting a decrease, Slovenia, which saw services production fall 1.7%.
Transportation and services
On annual basis, services production saw 5.7% growth in transportation and services, 1.2% in accommodation and food services, 5.4% in information and communication, 1.9% in real estate activities, 1.9% in professional, scientific and technical activities, and 1.1% in administrative and support services.
In the euro area specifically, transportation and storage rose by 4.5% in January, accommodation and food services by 0.9%, information and communication by 4.8%, real estate activities by 2.2%, professional, scientific and technical activities by 1.7%, and administrative and support services by 0.8%.
Month-on-month increase
On a month-on-month basis (December 2024 to January 2025), meanwhile, Eurostat’s data showed that services production increased by 0.3% in the EU and by 0.4% in the euro area.
The highest monthly increases in services production were recorded in Austria (+3.1%), Belgium (+3.0%), Bulgaria (+3.0%) and Latvia (+3.0%), while the largest decreases were seen in Denmark (-8.4%), Slovakia (-4.3%) and Slovenia (-2.6%).
On a sectoral basis, the biggest increase was seen in the real estate activities sector, which rose by 1.8%, followed by information and communication (1.1%), according to Eurostat. Read more here.
