Seven in ten EU citizens use online public services

Some 70% of EU citizens use online public services, new data from Eurostat has found, with the percentage using a website or app of a public authority rising by 0.7 percentage points last year.

Denmark leads the way in terms of the percentage of citizens utilising online public services, with a usage rate of 98.5%, followed by the Netherlands (96%) and Finland (95.4%).

At the other end of the scale, just 25.3% of Romanian citizens use online public services, with Bulgaria (31.5%) and Italy (55.1%) also showing below-average numbers.

The most common use of e-government services during 2024 included obtaining information about public services, laws, and benefits, according to Eurostat, with said data being accessed by 44%, a 2.4-percentage point increase on the previous year.

Accessing personal information was cited by 40% of respondents, up 0.8 percentage points, followed by downloading official forms (38.1%) and making requests or complaints (5.3%). Read more here.
