Slovakia boasted the highest inflation rate in the euro area in December 2023, of 6.6%, according to flash estimate figures from Eurostat.
The inflation rate in Slovakia stood at 6.9% in November 2023, and 15.0% in December 2022.
Also reporting a high inflation rate in December were Austria (5.7%, up from 4.9% in November), Croatia (5.4%), Estonia (4.3%) and France (4.1%).
The lowest inflation rate was seen in Italy and Belgium (0.5% each), while Latvia (0.9%) and the Netherlands (1.0%) also reported low inflation, Eurostat said. All data contained in the release is on an estimated basis.
Euro area
Across the euro area, annual inflation stood at 2.9% in December 2023, up from 2.4% in November.
The food, alcohol and tobacco segment boasted the highest annual inflation in December, of 6.1% (compared with 6.9% in November), followed by services (4.0%), and non-energy industrial goods (2.5%).
Inflation continued to fall in the energy sector, by 6.7% in December, compared to 11.5% in November.
