Bulgaria, Romania to enter Schengen area in March 2024

Bulgaria and Romania are to become part of the European Union’s Schengen area from March 2024, with the lifting of all controls at air and sea borders.

Romania reported an annual inflation rate of 9.7% in May 2026, the highest in the European Union, according to the latest data from Eurostat.
