Some 951.6 million short-stay accommodation nights were booked via platforms such as Airbnb, Booking or Expedia in the EU last year, a 11.4% increase on the previous year, and a rise of close to a third (32.4%) on 2023.
The final quarter of 2025 alone accounted for 172.3 million guest nights booked via these online platforms, marking a 10.9% year-on-year increase and a 30.2% jump compared with the final quarter of 2023, according to Eurostat.
The most popular regions for short-term tourism accommodation booked via online platforms in the third quarter of 2025 were concentrated in just six EU countries, the data showed.
Jadranska Hrvatska in Croatia topped the list with 27.7 million nights booked, followed by Andalucia in Spain with 19.5 million and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in France with 16.9 million.
Among the 20 most popular regions, France accounted for six, Spain five, Italy four, Greece three, and Portugal and Croatia one each.
‘Online platforms have made it significantly easier for individuals to offer short-term rentals, expanding access for both hosts and guests,’ Eurostat noted. ‘This growing accessibility has drawn increased attention to the short-term rental segment of the tourist accommodation market.
