Two thirds (66%) of Spanish consumers plan to purchase items during this year’s ‘Black Friday’ sales, a new study by consumer research platform AECOC Shopperview has found.
This is a notable increase on the 57% that said that they were planning Black Friday purchases last year.
Black Friday, which this year takes place on 29 November, is the traditional start of the Christmas shopping period.
Early Christmas shopping
Many shoppers are also using the occasion to kick-start their Christmas shopping early, with 47% planning to do so during this promotional period. As AECOC‘s study found, Spanish consumers generally see Black Friday as a ‘good opportunity’ to benefit from discounts and promotions, and 50% will use the event to save on the purchase of an item they need or had planned to buy.
Clothing, footwear, and accessories are anticipated to be the most popular categories during Black Friday 2024, attracting interest from 63% of respondents.
Other high-demand categories from retailers include electronics, such as computers and phones (51%), and personal care items like perfumes and toiletries (32%).
Additionally, 37% of shoppers said that they intend to take advantage of Black Friday discounts to explore new products that have recently entered the market, AECOC noted.
AECOC Shopperview is part of AECOC, a major Spanish business organisation encompassing 34,000 member companies spanning sectors from food to health. The combined turnover of these businesses represents nearly 25% of the national GDP. Read more here.
Local and seasonal products
Elsewhere, a recent study by supermarket chain DIA revealed that nine out of ten Spanish shoppers acknowledge the importance of local and seasonal products for maintaining a healthy, diverse diet.
The study, which was entitled I Radar SaluDiable, analysed the consumption habits of Spanish households and aligns with findings from a recent AECOC study, which reported that seven in ten Spanish consumers are concerned about sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
