Spain reported an unemployment rate of 10.4% in June 2025, the highest in the European Union, according to data from statistics body Eurostat.
Other countries to report an seasonally-adjusted above-average unemployment rate for the month included Finland (9.9%), Sweden (8.3%) and Estonia (7.7%). The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in Malta (2.5%), followed by Poland (3.5%).
EU unemployment rate
Across the entire European Union, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.9% in June 2025, stable compared to May and slightly lower than the 6.0% recorded in the corresponding month a year earlier.
Within the euro area, meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.2% in June 2025, also unchanged on a month-on-month basis, and down 6.4% on June 2024.
According to Eurostat, some 12,967 million people across the European Union were unemployed during the month, with 10,700 million of these located in the euro area.
Between May and June 2025, unemployment numbers fell by 23,000 in the EU and by 62,000 in the euro area, while over the 12-month period from June 2024 to June 2025, unemployment fell by 125,000 in the EU and by 293,000 in the euro area.
Youth unemployment
Youth unemployment has remained relatively stable, with 2,857 million people under the age of 25 in the EU, including 2,241 million in the euro area, unemployed as of June 2025. The youth unemployment rate held at 14.7% in the EU and decreased slightly to 14.1% in the euro area, down from 14.3% in the previous month.
On a gender basis, the unemployment rate for women in the EU fell slightly from 6.1% in May to 6.0% in June, while the rate for men remained unchanged at 5.7%.
