Denmark reported the biggest quarter-on-quarter increase in GDP in the EU in the second quarter of 2025, with a 1.3% gain, new data from Eurostat has found.
According to the data, other countries to report a notable increase in GDP compared to Q1 2025 included Croatia (+1.2%), Romania (+1.2%), Bulgaria (+0.9%) and Poland (+0.8%).
Decreases were recorded in three EU countries, including Finland (-0.4%), Germany (-0.3%), and Italy (-0.1%).
Seasonally-adjusted GDP rose by 0.2% in the EU in the second quarter, compared to the previous quarter, Eurostat‘s data showed, while in the euro area, GDP rose by 0.1%.
This compares to a 0.5% quarter-on-quarter gain in Q1 2025 across the EU, and a 0.6% increase in the euro area.
Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, meanwhile, seasonally-adjusted GDP rose by 1.6% in the EU, and by 1.5% in the euro area.
Looking at the different components of GDP, household final consumption expenditure grew by 0.1% in the euro area and 0.3% in the EU, compared with 0.3% growth in both during the previous quarter. Government final consumption expenditure rose by 0.5% in the euro area and 0.7% in the EU, following small declines in the previous quarter. Read more here.
