Spain has once again reported the highest unemployment rate in the EU, with a rate of 10.4% in February 2025, new data from Eurostat has revealed.

Other countries to report an above-average unemployment rate for the month included Finland (9.2%), Sweden (8.9%), Greece (8.6%), Estonia (7.7%) and France (7.4%).

A below-average unemployment rate, meanwhile, was reported in Poland (2.6%), Malta (2.7%), Czechia (2.7%) and Slovenia (3.2%).

EU unemployment rate

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the EU stood at 5.7% in February, down from 5.8% a month earlier and 6.1% in February 2024. In the euro area specifically, the rate stood at 6.1% in February, down from 6.2% on a month-on-month basis, and from 6.5% year-on-year.

As Eurostat noted, some 12.677 million persons in the EU, of whom 10.580 million were located in the euro area, were unemployed as of February 2025.

The youth unemployment rate (among those under 25) stood at 14.5% in the EU in February, down from 14.6% a month earlier, while in the euro area, it was 14.2% (up from 14.1%).

Elsewhere, the unemployment rate for women was 6.0% in the EU, on a par with the previous month, while the unemployment rate for men was 5.5%, down from 5.6% in January 2025, Eurostat’s data showed. Read more here.
