Spain was the EU country with the highest unemployment rate in July 2025, reporting a rate of 10.4%, ahead of Finland (9.9%) and Sweden (8.9%), new data from Eurostat has revealed.
According to the data, other European countries to report an above-average unemployment rate for the month included Greece (8.0%), France (7.6%), Estonia (7.2%) and Lithuania (7.1%).
At the other end of the scale, meanwhile, countries to report a low unemployment rate for the month included Malta (2.6%), Czechia (2.8%), Slovenia (2.9%) and Poland (3.1%). Germany reported an unemployment rate of 3.7%, the data showed.
Unemployment rate across Europe
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the EU stood at 5.9% in the EU in July, down from 6.0% recorded the previous month. In the euro area, the rate stood at 6.2%, down from 6.3% in June and 6.4% in July of the previous year.
Eurostat estimated that 13.025 million people in the EU were unemployed in July, of whom 10.805 million were in the euro area. That indicates that the month-on-month decline in unemployment was 165,000 people in the EU and 170,000 in the euro area.
Youth unemployment also declined, according to the data, with some 2.8 million people unemployed in the EU as of July, of which 2.23 million were in the euro area. The youth unemployment rate reached 14.4% in the EU, while in the euro area it fell to 13.9%. Read more here.
