What EU country saw the biggest increase in industrial producer prices in October 2024?

Czechia reported the biggest annual increase in industrial producer prices in the EU in October 2024, reporting a 0.8% increase, according to new data from Eurostat.

Few EU countries saw industrial producer prices rise, year-on-year, in the period, the data showed – Malta reported a 0.7% increase, Sweden saw prices up 0.4%, and Denmark and Portugal both saw prices rise 0.3%.

All other EU countries reported a decline, with the most pronounced drop seen in Slovakia (-20.4%), followed by Luxembourg (-6.4%) and France (-5.7%). No data was available for Ireland.

European prices decline

On an annual basis, industrial producer prices declined by 3.0% in the EU, and by 3.2% in the euro area.

On a segment-by-segment basis, intermediate goods prices decreased by 0.6% in the EU, while energy prices dropped by 10.2%, capital goods increased by 1.5%, durable consumer goods rose by 0.4%, and non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.7%. Excluding energy, prices in the total industry increased by 0.7%.

On a month-on-month basis, however, industrial producer prices were up 0.4% in both the EU and euro area, reversing a 0.6% decline seen the previous month.

The largest monthly price increases were seen in Estonia and Italy (both +1.0%), France (+0.9%), and Sweden (+0.8%), while the largest decreases were reported in Bulgaria (-2.9%), Slovakia (-2.0%), and Romania (-1.5%). Read more here.
