What euro area country reported the biggest increase in inflation in September 2025?

Other euro area countries to report a higher-than-average annual inflation rate for the month, according to Eurostat estimates, include Croatia (+4.6%), Slovakia (+4.6%) and Latvia (+4.1%).

At the other end of the scale, Cyprus reported a flat (0.0%) increase in annual inflation rate, while France (+1.1%), Greece (+1.8%), Italy (+1.8%) and Portugal (+1.9%) also saw rates increase below the euro area average.

According to Eurostat estimates, euro area annual inflation is expected to be 2.2% in September, up from 2.0% in August.

On a sector-by-sector basis, the services sector is expected to have the biggest influence on inflation in the period (+3.2%), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (+3.0%), non-energy industrial goods (+0.8%) and energy (-0.4%).

On a month-on-month basis, meanwhile, Italy reported the highest inflation increase in the euro area, of 1.3%, followed by Portugal (+1.0%) and Greece (+0.6%). Malta (-1.3%) reported the biggest month-on-month decline, the data showed.
