Croatia reported the highest annual inflation rate in the euro area in August 2025, of 4.6%, according to the latest flash estimates from Eurostat.
Other countries to report an above-average annual inflation rate for the month included Slovakia (4.4%), Latvia (4.1%), Austria (4.1%) and Lithuania (3.6%).
Just one country reported a negative annual inflation rate for the year, Cyprus (-0.1%), with lower-than-average rates reported in France (0.8%) and Italy (1.7%).
Across the euro area, the annual inflation rate stood at 2.1% in August, up from 2.0% in July, according to the Eurostat estimates.
The biggest components of euro area inflation, on a segment-by-segment basis were food, alcohol & tobacco, which saw inflation up 3.2% in August, services (+3.1%), non-energy industrial goods (0.8%) and energy (-1.9%).

Monthly inflation
In terms of monthly inflation, meanwhile, Belgium reported the highest month-on-month inflation gain, of 1.5%, followed by Luxembourg (1.2%), Estonia (0.9%) and Cyprus (0.7%).
Several countries reported a decline in monthly inflation, including Greece (-0.6%), Lithuania and Finland (both -0.3%), Latvia and Italy (both -0.2%) and Portugal (-0.1%).
