Consumer confidence in Lithuania rises month-on-month in December

In December, Lithuanian consumers were slightly more optimistic about their future financial situation, the latest consumer confidence index from the country’s official state data agency has found.

At the same time, consumers viewed their financial situation over the past 12 months as a little worse than expected.

The share of individuals who believe that the country’s economic situation will improve increased by six percentage points, the data showed, while the share of those who expect the situation to worsen decreased by four percentage points.

Household finances

In terms of the financial situation of their own household, more than a quarter (26%) believe that their situation will improve, compared to 12% that believe it will get worse.

This is a slight improvement on the November consumer confidence index, in which 23% were more optimistic about the coming year, and 12% were pessimistic.

Consumer confidence increases

On a year-over-year basis (December 2023 vs. December 2022), consumer confidence increased by nine percentage points, the data showed.

In terms of whether Lithuanian consumers are more willing to spend money on larger or more expensive purchases, 28% said that they would be confident enough to spend more on large purchases over the coming 12 months, while 20% anticipate they would spend less on said items.
