Some 63.6% of EU enterprises employing 10 or more people used some form of social media in 2025, new data from Eurostat has revealed. This is up from 61.1% in 2023.
‘Enterprises use social media […] to increase their online presence, improve marketing, communicate with partners, customers, and other organisations, and facilitate collaboration and knowledge-sharing,’ it noted.
On a country by country basis, Malta boasted the highest share of businesses using social media, at 88.2% followed by Finland (87.6%) and Denmark (86.1%).
At the other end of the scale, Bulgaria (41.5%), Croatia (46.0%) and Hungary (47.3%) reported the lowest shares of firms using social media.
Company size
Eurostat also noted that larger companies were more likely to make use of social media than smaller firms. Among small enterprises, defined as those employing between 10 and 49 people, 60.6% reported using social media. Usage increased to 76.2% among medium-sized enterprises employing between 50 and 249 people.
The highest adoption rate was recorded among large enterprises, which employ 250 or more people, where 89.1% of businesses reported using social media.
Eurostat’s survey covers businesses with at least 10 employees or self-employed persons operating across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, trade, transport, accommodation, information and communication services, real estate, professional services and administrative activities.
