Construction projects with a total value of DKK 28.5 billion were initiated in Denmark in Q1 2025

The total value of construction projects initiated in Denmark in the first quarter of this year stood at DKK 28.5 billion, an increase of close to DKK 2 billion on the same period in 2025, according to new data from Byggefakta Smart published by Hubexo Danmark.

Despite this increase, the total value remained around DKK 3 billion below the average level recorded over the last five years, the data showed.

Increasing concentration

“The figures for the first quarter show a project market on the rise, but also an increasing concentration in a few, large projects,” commented Rasmus Schulian, senior analyst at Hubexo.

“This provides opportunities for companies that are ready, but places strict demands on timing and tender strategy.”

Commercial construction

Commercial construction contributed significantly to activity in the period, with several of the largest projects that began construction during the quarter in the commercial segment (see table below).

These included a production, office, and technical building for Novo Nordisk in Hillerød, valued at DKK 2.7 billion, and a warehouse and head office project for UNICEF in Copenhagen valued at DKK 1.69 billion. Additional projects included a logistics centre in Middelfart, an expansion of Glostrup Shopping Centre, and a university building in Lyngby-Taarbæk.

The distribution of construction activity varied by region. The Capital Region accounted for 57% of the total value of new construction and renovation projects during the quarter. However, when measured by the number of projects, the region accounted for 36%.

The analysis noted that changes in financing, regulation, and market conditions could affect project timing and scope, while external factors, including geopolitical developments (such as the Iran conflict) and energy price changes, could influence future construction activity.

“We should not ignore the headwinds that are building up,” Schulian added. “Energy price movements and geopolitical uncertainties will likely leave their mark in the coming quarters. For players in the construction industry, it is crucial to act on insight rather than reacting backwards.” Read more here.
