Consumer prices rose 1.0% in France in July, compared to the same month the previous year, according to provisional data from statistics body Insee.

Consumer prices rose 1.0% in France in July, compared to the same month the previous year, according to provisional data from statistics body Insee.

According to the statistics body, while energy prices fell ‘at a faster pace’ than in previous months, and the price of manufactured products also dipped, there was a slight acceleration in the price of food and services.

Seasonal price increases

On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.2% in France in July, according to the provisional data, following on from a 0.4% increase in June, which is due to a seasonal increase in the price of services, in particular transport and accommodation, and to a lesser extent by an increase in energy prices.

Food and tobacco prices, as well as the price of manufactured products, were stable, month-on-month, according to Insee.

‘Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 0.9% in July 2025, as in June,’ Insee said. ‘Over one month, it should increase by 0.3%, after +0.4% in the previous month.’

Looking at specific categories, tobacco prices remained elevated, with a 4.0% year-on-year price increase. Manufactured products recorded a continued decrease of 0.2%, while energy prices fell by 7.2% compared to July 2024.

Final data, which will include complete price observations and updated estimates, is scheduled for release on 14 August. Read more here.
