Fertiliser prices rose in the European Union in each consecutive quarter of 2025, with Q4 prices rising by 8% compared to the previous period, new data from Eurostat has revealed.
The increase in prices over the course of last year followed on from prices declining through much of 2023 and 2024. However, the years 2021 and 2022 also saw a surge in prices, amid wider inflationary pressures and energy market disruption.
Increase in prices
Of the 27 EU member states, 24 recorded year-on-year increases in fertiliser and soil improver prices during the final quarter of 2025.
Romania posted the largest increase, of 16.8%, followed by Ireland (+15.3%) and the Netherlands (+12.1%).
Just three EU member states recorded a decrease in prices in the quarter: Bulgaria (-6.1%), Croatia (-0.2%) and Lithuania (-0.2%).
Previous data from Eurostat indicated that pesticide sales rose by 8% in 2024, compared to the previous year, following on from two years of declining sales. However, pesticide sales for the year are down 12% on 2011 levels. Read more here and here.
