Some 26.8% of citizens in the European Union purchased tickets online for cultural or sporting events in 2025, a figure that is up 3.8 percentage points on the previous year, according to Eurostat.
When asked whether they had purchased tickets online in the past three months, Ireland led the way, with 51.5% of people purchasing tickets online, followed by the Netherlands (48.1%) and Denmark (47.9%).
At the other end of the scale, Bulgaria recorded the lowest share of people that purchased event tickets online at 11.4%, ahead of Romania (12.6%) and Italy (14.2%).
‘With festivals and concerts filling up the summer calendar, many people are buying tickets to events online,’ the statistics body noted.

Other Eurostat findings indicate that around two fifths (39%) of internet users in the EU purchased cultural services online in 2025, which corresponds to around 37% of the EU population.
Buying subscriptions to film, series or sports streaming services were the most popular, accounting for 33% of internet users, while subscriptions to music streaming services were held by 23% of internet users. Read more here.
