More than a third of Swedish businesses now use AI technologies

Over a third of enterprises (35%) in Sweden now use artificial intelligence in some capacity, with AI adoption accelerating sharply in 2025.

Over a third of enterprises (35%) in Sweden now use artificial intelligence in some capacity, with AI adoption accelerating sharply in 2025.

According to Statistics Sweden, the percentage of enterprises using AI was up by ten percentage points on the previous year, continuing an upward trend that commenced in 2021.

Larger enterprises

“The results show that large enterprises to a greater extent use AI compared to small enterprises,” commented Fredric Nyström, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

“Larger enterprises also have more resources – such as the use of cloud computing services for development and operations, personnel who perform data analysis, and employed ICT specialists – all of which can act to enable a wider use of the technology.”

AI adoption varied significantly on a sector-by-sector basis. The highest levels of adoption were recorded in information technology and communications, where almost 90% of enterprises used AI tools or systems.

At the opposite end of the scale, only 12.3% of Swedish transportation and storage companies reported using AI.

Public adoption

The statistics body also noted growing public adoption of AI – among Swedish residents aged 16 and over, use of generative AI tools increased from 25% in 2024 to 37% in 2025.

Private use was most common, with 30% of respondents saying they used AI tools for personal purposes, while 18% used them at work and 10% used them in formal education.

Younger people were by far the most intensive users. Among 16–24 year olds, generative AI use for education and private purposes was almost equally widespread, at 48% and 49% respectively.

Elsewhere, men (34%) reported higher levels of generative AI use than women (25%) across both personal and professional contexts.

‘In relation to work-related purposes, the differences were somewhat less pronounced, but men still used generative AI more for this purpose than women,’ Statistics Sweden noted.

On a regional basis, Stockholm and western Sweden led the way in terms of enterprise AI adoption, while northern and central regions recorded the lowest levels of AI usage. Read more here.
