The price of package holidays was 6.6% higher in Europe this summer

The price of package holidays in the European Union was 6.6% higher in July 2024, compared to the same month the previous year, new data has shown.

The price of domestic holiday packages rose by 11.1%, the data showed, while the price of international holiday packages rose by 5.7%.

France saw the biggest rise

On a country-by-country basis, the biggest increase in package holiday prices was seen in France (+22.2%), which is unsurprising given the Paris 2024 Olympics took place this year.

However, notable increases were also seen in Italy (+19.5%) and Cyprus (+16.7%), along with Estonia (+14.7%), Poland (+13.1%) and Belgium (+11.5%), the Eurostat data showed.

Just three EU countries reported a price decline for package holidays in July 2024, compared to the previous year, Malta (-2.9%), Finland (-2.7%) and Denmark (-0.2%).

Steady increase

Package holiday prices have been rising steadily across the EU since August 2021, Eurostat reported with annual increases exceeding 10% in most months of 2022 and 2023.

In 2023, domestic package holidays experienced a significant surge, with inflation rates surpassing 20% for seven months.
