A new study has named Manchester as having the most ‘Instagram-worthy’ Christmas market in Europe, ahead of festive markets in Edinburgh and Strasbourg.
In conducting its study, online casino comparison service Casino Alpha gathered a list of leading Christmas markets across Europe and took to Instagram to analyse how many posts with associated hashtags had been uploaded for each one.
Manchester Christmas market topped the list with 71,117 Instagram hashtags, followed by Edinburgh, with 58,735 hashtags, and Strasbourg, with a total of 34,938 Instagram hashtags.
The French city boasts a Christmas market tradition dating back to 1570, which is centered around a 30-metre-tall Christmas tree in Place Kléber.
The list continues with Vienna, Austria, in fourth place (23,816 Instagram hashtags), famous for its Christkindlmarkt in front of Vienna City Hall, and Birmingham, England, in fifth (22,702 hashtags). Colmar, France, secures sixth place (18,695 hashtags), while Budapest, Hungary, ranks seventh (13,564 hashtags).
Rounding out the top ten are Frankfurt, Germany (11,753 hashtags), with its Römerberg market; Prague, Czech Republic (10,998 hashtags), known for its Old Town Square festivities; and Winchester, England (10,462 hashtags), which hosts its market within the grounds of Winchester Cathedral.
