What EU country had the highest job vacancy rate in Q4 2024?

Belgium and the Netherlands both reported the highest job vacancy rate in the European Union in the fourth quarter of 2024, with a rate of 4.1%, new data from Eurostat has found.

Other countries to report an above-average job vacancy rate for the quarter included Austria (3.6%), Czechia (3.2%), Germany (3.2%), Malta (2.9%) and Cyprus (2.8%).

At the other end of the scale, the lowest job vacancy rate was recorded in Bulgaria, Poland, and Romania (0.7% in each country), followed by Spain (0.9%), Slovakia (1.1%) and Ireland (1.1%). No data was available for Denmark.

Job vacancy rate in the EU

Across the European Union, the job vacancy rate in the fourth quarter stood at 2.3%, the same as the previous quarter, and down from 2.6% in the corresponding period a year earlier. The euro area job vacancy rate stood at 2.5%.

The job vacancy rate in the EU stood at 2.0% in the industry and construction sector in the fourth quarter, and at 2.5% in services, according to the data.

The job vacancy rate increased in four EU member states, remained stable in six, and decreased in seventeen. The largest increases were noted in Denmark, Spain, Croatia, and Malta, with a rise of 0.1 percentage points.

The biggest declines occurred in Germany, Greece, France, and Austria, where rates dropped by 0.7, 0.6, 0.5, and 0.5 percentage points, respectively. Read more here.
