What EU country reported the biggest production in construction increase in December 2024?

Spain reported a 11.2% increase in seasonally adjusted production in its construction sector in December 2024, compared to the previous year, the highest in the European Union.

Among the EU member states for which data is available, Czechia (+9.7%), Slovakia (+5.8%) and Portugal (+5.1%) saw the biggest increases in production in construction in the month.

At the other end of the scale, meanwhile, Romania reported a 12.9% decrease in production in construction, followed by Poland (-9.9%), Austria (-9.3%) and Belgium (-7.2%).

Construction sector in Europe

Overall, across the European Union, production in the construction sector decreased by 0.8% in December 2024, compared to the same month the previous year, while on a month-on-month basis it was down 0.4%.

On a year-on-year basis, production in construction decreased by 1.3% in terms of the construction of buildings, by 1.1% in civil engineering, and by 1.3% for specialised construction activities, Eurostat‘s data showed.

‘The annual average production in construction for the year 2024, compared with 2023, decreased by 0.9% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU,’ it added.
