Romania reported the highest annual inflation rate in the European Union in July 2025, with a rate of 6.6%, new data from Eurostat has found.
Other countries to report an above-average inflation rate for July included Estonia (5.6%), Slovakia (4.6%) and Croatia (4.5%).
At the other end of the scale, the lowest annual inflation rates were recorded in Cyprus (0.1%), France (0.9%) and Ireland (1.6%).
Overall, across the European Union, annual inflation stood at 2.4% in July, up from 2.3% the previous month and 2.8% in the corresponding month a year earlier. In the euro area, the annual inflation rate was 2.0% in July, the same as the previous month.
According to Eurostat, annual inflation rates fell in eight EU member states, remained stable in six and rose in 13.
The biggest contribution to the euro area inflation rate came from services (+1.46 percentage points), Eurostat noted, followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (+0.63 pp), non-energy industrial goods (+0.18 pp) and energy (-0.23 pp).

Monthly inflation
In terms of the monthly inflation rate, meanwhile – comparing July 2025 with the previous month – Denmark reported the highest rate in the European Union, at 1.7%.
Other countries to report a high month-on-month rate included Bulgaria (1.4%), Romania (1.3%) and Croatia (1.2%). Six countries saw inflation fall on a month-on-month basis, led by Italy (-1.0%).
