Bulgaria reported the highest annual inflation rate in the euro area in April 2026, of 6.2%, according to new estimates from Eurostat.
Other euro area countries to report a notable increase in inflation for the month included Croatia (5.4%), Luxembourg (5.2%) and Lithuania (4.9%), the data showed.
Euro area inflation was estimated at 3.0% for the month, up from 2.6% in March, Eurostat said.
Energy price increases
The increase was driven primarily by energy prices, which recorded the highest annual rate among the main components of inflation. Energy inflation is estimated at 10.9% in April, compared with 5.1% the previous month.
Other components showed more moderate changes. Inflation in services is estimated at 3.0%, slightly down from 3.2% in March, while food, alcohol and tobacco rose to 2.5% from 2.4%. Non-energy industrial goods also increased modestly, with inflation reaching 0.8% compared with 0.5% in the previous month.
Core inflation measures, which exclude more volatile components such as energy and food, indicate a more stable trend. Inflation excluding energy is estimated at 2.2%, while excluding both energy and unprocessed food it stands at 2.1%. Read more here.
