Germany was by far the biggest beer producer in the European Union in 2025, producing 7.4 billion litres, or 21.6% of total EU sold production, according to new data from Eurostat.
Overall, countries in the European Union produced 34.4 billion litres of beer in 2025, the data showed. This indicates a 0.7% decrease compared to 2024, but a 2.2% increase compared with 2020.
Of the total, 32.3 billion litres contained more than 0.5% alcohol, while low-alcohol (under 0.5%) and non-alcoholic beer accounted for 2.1 billion litres of production.
Major beer producers
The second-biggest producer of beer in the bloc was Spain, with 5.3 billion litres, or 15.5% of the EU total, followed by Poland with 3.5 billion litres and a 10.2% share.
In fourth, the Netherlands produced 2.4 billion litres, accounting for 6.9% of the EU total, while France recorded 2.1 billion litres, or 6.0%.
Together, the five largest producers accounted for 20.7 billion litres of beer, representing about 60% of total EU production. Germany alone produced more beer than the combined output of France and the Netherlands, while Spain’s production was 1.8 billion litres below Germany’s.
The data forms part of Eurostat’s statistics on production and cover beer produced within EU countries during 2025. The ranking is based on available and non-confidential data. Read more here.
