Poland reported the biggest increase in GDP in the European Union in the second quarter of the year, compared to the same period last year, with a rise of 4.0%, new data has found.
Other countries to see a notable year-on-year increase in GDP in Q2 2024, compared to Q2 2023, include Cyprus (3.7%), Spain (2.9%), Slovakia (2.1%), Bulgaria (2.0%), Portugal (1.5%), Lithuania (1.4%).
At the other end of the scale, Estonia saw a 1.7% decrease in GDP in the second quarter of the year, on a year-on-year basis, while Ireland was down 1.4%, Finland down 0.7%, Latvia down 0.4% and Germany down 0.1%.
Data for Denmark, Greece, Croatia, Luxembourg, and Malta was not provided.
Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP in the second quarter of 2024 increased by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU, the Eurostat data showed.
This follows year-on-year growth of 0.5% in the euro area and 0.6% in the EU during the first quarter of 2024.
