Passenger numbers and flights increased at Dutch airports in Q2 2025

Some 20.7 million air passengers traveled through the five main airports in the Netherlands in the second quarter of 2025, a 3.1% increase on the corresponding period a year earlier, according to new data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

The number of flights at the main Dutch airports also rose in the period, to 141,800, a 1.4% increase.

According to the data, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol remained the busiest airport in the Netherlands, handling 87% of the country’s air traffic. Some 17.9 million passengers passed through Schiphol in the second quarter of the year, a 3.1% increase, while the airport also served some 124,000 flights during the period, a 1.4% rise.

Schiphol, with 66.8 million passengers last year, remains the second-busiest airport in the European Union in terms of passenger volume, behind Paris Charles de Gaulle (70.3 million passengers).

Other airports

Most of the other main Dutch airports also experienced growth in the period. Rotterdam The Hague Airport reported a 7% percent increase in passengers and a 2% increase in flights, while Eindhoven Airport handled nearly two million passengers, a 2.2% increase on the corresponding period a year earlier, as well as a 1.3% increase in flights.

Groningen Airport Eelde reported a 10% increase in flights – the most of any major Dutch airport – as well as a 5.5% increase in passengers. Maastricht Aachen Airport was the only airport to see a decline in passenger numbers, down by 9.9%, despite a 1* increase in flight activity.

Taken together, Rotterdam The Hague, Maastricht Aachen, and Groningen Airport Eelde recorded a total of 6,700 flights and 767,000 passengers in the second quarter of 2025, according to Statistics Netherlands. These figures represent an increase of 2.2% in flights and a 5.4% in passengers compared to the same quarter the previous year. Read more here.
