Swiss Eurovision winner Nemo sees surge in social media followers

Eurovision winner Nemo has gained more than 270,000 Instagram followers since the competition’s semi final, a new study has found.

The Swiss performer, the first non-binary winner of the annual song contest, gained a total tally of 591 in this year’s competition, for their song The Code.

Commenting following their win, Nemo said that they were “overwhelmed” by the occasion, adding “I’m mostly just really grateful for this experience and all the friends I’ve made along the way. This was one of the most queer representations we’ve seen at Eurovision which was amazing, I want to shout out all the other queer artists this year.

“[Performing] a song where I speak about my story, having touched so many people and maybe inspired people to stay true to themselves, is the most insane thing that has ever happened to me.”

Bambie Thug also gains followers

Nemo’s Instagram account (@nemothings) isn’t the only one to see a surge in popularity, however, with Ireland‘s Bambie Thug (@bambiethug) earning more than 118,000 Instagram followers since their semi final performance.

Elsewhere, the UK’s representative, Olly Alexander, may have only placed 18th in the competition – earning zero points from the public vote – but has still managed to gain an additional 19,736 followers on his @ollyalexanderr Instagram account.

In conducting its research, King Casino Bonus utilised Social Blade to analyse the follower counts of the Eurovision performers on the platform from May 6 to May 13, revealing significant spikes in social media popularity for some performers.
