The value of energy exports from Finland rose by 16% last year, to €5.6 billion, new data from Statistics Finland has revealed.
At the same time, the value of Finland’s energy imports declined by 6% year-on-year, to €10 billion.
Norway, Sweden and the United States were Finland’s largest energy import partners by value during the year, while Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom were the main export destinations.
The country’s most valuable energy export products were medium distillates, motor gasoline and other petroleum products. On the import side, crude oil, medium distillates and other petroleum products accounted for the largest shares of energy imports.
Natural gas
Statistics Finland also reported major shifts in gas trade flows during the year. The import volume of natural gas nearly quadrupled in 2025 compared with the previous year, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports dropped by 49%.
At the same time, exports of natural gas fell by 47%, whereas LNG exports edged up by 3%.
Electricity imports increased strongly during the year. Finland imported 11.1 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity in 2025, up 28% from 2024, while electricity exports remained unchanged at 5.5 TWh, the data showed. Read more here.
