A total of 6.4 million guests stayed in tourism accommodation establishments in Czechia during the second quarter of 2026, according to new data from the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO).
The number of arrivals increased by 0.5% year-on-year, while the number of overnight stays rose by 0.3% to 15.1 million, indicating a marginal increase in tourists since last year.
Domestic residents accounted for 8.1 million overnight stays, while foreign guests recorded 7.1 million. The increase in total overnight stays was supported by non-residents, whose overnight stays rose 0.7% compared with the same period of 2025. Overnight stays by domestic guests were unchanged year-on-year.
The figures also show a change in foreign tourism demand. The number of domestic guests increased by 0.9%, while demand from foreign guests ‘stagnated’ year-on-year, for the first time since the second quarter of 2021, CZSO noted.
Hotels and other accommodation
Hotels recorded 1.5% growth during the quarter, with 4.5 million guests recorded during the period. The number of domestic residents staying in hotels increased by 4%, while non-resident arrivals declined by 0.4%. Four-star hotels remained the most visited accommodation category, recording a 1.4% increase in guest numbers and a 0.5% increase in overnight stays.
Boarding houses recorded more than 800,000 arrivals and almost 1.8 million overnight stays. Other accommodation establishments, including tourist campsites, experienced a decline, with arrivals falling 2.9% and overnight stays decreasing 2.3% year-on-year.
Regional performance
Tourism performance varied from region to region, the statistics office added, with visitor numbers increasing in half of Czech regions, compared to the corresponding period a year earlier.
The Moravskoslezský, Královéhradecký and Liberecký regions recorded the highest growth rates, while increases were also reported in the Plzeňský, Zlínský, Jihočeský and Středočeský regions. The Karlovarský region recorded the largest decline, with arrivals falling 4.3%.
Prague remained the country’s main tourism destination, recording 2.2 million guests and five million overnight stays.
Foreign guests accounted for 2.9 million arrivals during the quarter. Germany remained the largest source market, with 650,000 guests, although arrivals from Germany declined 0.6% year-on-year. Slovakia followed with 262,000 arrivals, and Poland with 255,000.
German visitors recorded almost 1.8 million overnight stays, while visitors from Slovakia accounted for 521,000. Guests from the United States and Poland each recorded almost 500,000 overnight stays. Read more here.
