Czechia has seen the biggest increase in egg prices in the EU over the past year, with a 46% increase, according to new data from Eurostat.
Other countries to see a notable increase in egg prices include Slovakia (+29.8%), Hungary (+26.1%), Denmark (+17.8%) and Poland (+13.5%).
The price of eggs across the EU was 6.7% higher in March 2025, compared to the same month the previous year, with the increase driven by shortages in some countries linked to to outbreaks of bird flu.
Several countries reported a decrease in the price of eggs over the past year, with the Netherlands (-3.6%), Luxembourg (-3.2%) and Greece (-2.0%) seeing the biggest decreases.
Sweden, Croatia, Finland, Bulgaria and France also saw egg prices lower in March 2025 than in March 2024, the data showed.
Egg price rises in 2025
Across all markets, egg prices have seen year-on-year increases in all months of 2025, rising by 3.4% in January and 4.1% in February, before Marchs’s 6.7% rise, according to Eurostat data.
Egg prices have fluctuated in recent years – the biggest year-on-year increase in prices was reported in February 2023, when prices were 31.2% higher than in the same month the previous year. Read more here.
