Other countries to report an above average increase in industrial producer prices included Bulgaria (+7.5%) and Lithuania (+7.2%), while the largest annual decreases were reported in Luxembourg (-4.9%), Estonia (-2.4%) and Slovakia (-1.3%).

Industrial producer prices

Industrial producer prices in both the euro area and across the European Union rose sharply in March 2026, driven largely by higher energy costs, Eurostat noted.

Compared with March 2025, producer prices were up 2.1% in the euro area and 2.0% across the EU, while on a month-on-month basis, the increase was even higher – industrial producer prices increased by 3.4% in the euro area and by 3.2% across the EU.

Sector by sector

Looking at industrial producer prices on a sector by sector level, on an annual basis, energy prices rose by 4.2% in the euro area and by 4.4% across the EU, Eurostat said.

Intermediate goods prices increased by 2.0% in the euro area and 1.7% in the EU. Capital goods prices rose by 1.6% in both regions, while durable consumer goods recorded annual increases of 2.5% in the euro area and 2.3% across the EU.

On a monthly basis, meanwhile, energy prices rose by 11.1% during March, while the EU recorded a 10.2% increase. Prices for intermediate goods also increased, rising by 0.7% in the euro area and 0.8% across the EU.
