Agricultural output prices in EU up 5.6% in second quarter

Agricultural output prices rose by 5.6% in the second quarter of 2025, on average, compared to the corresponding period a year ago, new data from Eurostat has found.

Agricultural output prices rose by 5.6% in the EU in the second quarter of 2025, on average, compared to the corresponding period a year ago, new data from Eurostat has found.

The period marked an increase in prices after a period of decline, the statistics body said, with the average price of goods and services used in agriculture and not related to investment (such as energy, fertilisers or feeding stuffs) up by 0.4% compared to the corresponding period a year earlier.

Fertilisers and soil improvers reported a price increase of 5.6%, followed by veterinary expenses (+3.3%). Energy and lubricants fell by 5.8%, however, with motor fuel prices down 10.8%

There were notable agricultural output price increases for categories such as eggs (+27.8%), fruit (+21.1%), and milk (+13.3%). At the same time, however, olive oil prices fell sharply, by 39.9%, while potatoes dropped by 29.1%.

Price increases

Agricultural output prices rose in almost all member states, with Latvia (+21.8%), Ireland (+21.1%), and Luxembourg (+18.4%) seeing the highest price increase. Greece was the only country to report a decline, of a marginal 0.1%, Eurostat noted.

In terms of input costs, meanwhile, The Netherlands (+6.1%), Hungary (+5.6%), and Austria (+2.9%) reported the biggest increases, with 17 EU member states seeing costs rise altogether. On the other hand, Cyprus and Bulgaria (both -3.4%) and Romania (-3.1%) saw declines.
