Croatia sees slight decline in tourists in July 2024, but accommodation up

Croatia reported a 2.0% decline in tourist arrivals in July 2024, compared to the corresponding month last year, however there were 0.5% more tourist nights recorded in the month.

Some 4.4 million tourists holidayed in Croatia in July, spending 25.2 million nights in accommodation establishments, such as hotels, according to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

Domestic tourists totalled 377,000, a 7.2% increase, with these tourists spending 1.7 million nights (up 8.0%).

Tourists by country

In July, German tourists accounted for the highest number of tourist nights by foreign arrivals, totalling 4.6 million (19.7% of the total foreign nights), though this was a 4.2% decrease compared to July 2023.

These were followed by tourists from Slovenia (11.6%), Poland (8.8%), Austria and the Czech Republic (7.4% each), Hungary and Slovakia (5.6% each), the Netherlands (3.9%), the United Kingdom (3.2%), and Italy (3.1%).

The most popular destination for foreign tourists was Rovinj (pictured), on the Adriatic Sea, where 946,000 nights were recorded, representing a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2023.

For domestic tourists, Crikvenica was the top destination, with 73,000 nights recorded in July 2024.

Cleanest Airbnb accommodation

Elsewhere, a recent study by holiday rental agency GuestReady found that Split, Croatia, has the cleanest Airbnb accommodations in Europe.

The study analysed Airbnb data from 50 popular European cities, revealing that Split rentals earned an average cleanliness rating of 4.93 out of 5, based on 34,574 guest reviews.
