What EU country had the highest inflation rate in February 2024?

Romania boasted the highest annual inflation rate in the European Union in February 2024, at 7.1%, according to Eurostat data.

Other countries to report a high inflation rate in the month were Croatia (4.8%) and Estonia (4.4%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in Latvia and Denmark (both 0.6%) as well as Italy (0.8%), the data showed.

European Union inflation

European Union inflation stood at 2.8% in February, compared to 3.1% in January, and 9.9% in February 2023. Within the euro area, inflation stood at 2.6%, down from 2.8% in January and 8.5% a year earlier.

Compared with January, annual inflation decreased in twenty Member States, remained stable in five, and increased in two, according to Eurostat.

In February 2024, the highest contribution to the euro area inflation rate came from services (+1.73 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco (+0.79 percentage points), non-energy industrial goods (+0.42 percentage points), and energy (-0.36 percentage points).
