Greece reported the largest annual increase in services production in August 2025, with a seasonally-adjusted year-on-year gain of 25.3%, new data from Eurostat has found.
This is well ahead of other EU countries, with the next highest increase in services production recorded in Lithuania (+7.9%) and then Denmark (+6.0%).
At the other end of the scale, the biggest decrease in services production in the EU, compared to the same month the previous year, was recorded in Hungary (-4.5%), followed by Malta (-3.1%) and Austria (-2.0%).
Across the EU as a whole, services production was up by 1.8% compared to August 2024, and by 1.7% in the euro area.
On a month-on-month basis, meanwhile, i.e. compared to July 2025, services production was down 0.2% in the EU, and rose by 0.1% in the euro area.
Sector by sector
Looking at the various sectors that comprise the services industry, transportation and storage reported a 1.6% increase in production at EU level in August, compared to the same month the previous year, while accommodation and food services rose by 1.2%.
Elsewhere, information and communication rose by 3.5%, real estate activities were up 2.0%, professional, scientific and technical activities rose by 0.9%, and administrative and support services were up by 1.0%, all on an annual basis.
The highest month-on-month increases in services production were recorded in Greece (+5.4%), Slovenia (+2.8%) and France (+0.7%), with the largest declines seen in Luxembourg (-4.8%), Romania (-2.4%) and Denmark (-1.9%), Eurostat’s data showed. Read more here.
