What EU country reported the highest annual inflation rate in October 2025?

Other countries to report an above-average inflation rate for the month included Hungary (4.2%), Austria (4.0%), Croatia (4.0%) and Slovakia (3.9%).

According to the data, the lowest annual inflation rates were recorded in Cyprus (0.2%), France (0.8%) and Italy (1.3%), with inflation rising in nine EU member states remaining stable in three and falling in 15.

At an EU level, the annual inflation rate for the European Union stood at 2.5% in October, down from 2.6% in September, while the annual inflation rate in the euro area was 2.1%, down from 2.2% in September.

On a sector-by-sector basis, the biggest contributor to the euro area inflation rate in October was the services sector (+1.54 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (+0.48 percentage points) and non-energy industrial goods (+0.16 percentage points), while energy had a negative effect on inflation (-0.08 percentage points).

On a month-on-month basis, in other words, from September to October 2025, the highest annual inflation rate in the EU was recorded in Denmark (0.6%) and the Netherlands (0.6%), with several countries reporting an increase of 0.5% – Czechia, Spain, Austria and Romania.

A number of countries also saw their monthly inflation rate decrease, year-on-year, with Malta (-0.9%) seeing the biggest decline, followed by Portugal (-0.3%) and Italy (-0.2%). Read more here.
